In the 1980s I worked in Soho. I loved the place and I still pass through when I am in London. It has all changed now and to be honest, I was there as the whole red-light and sex experience was coming to a plastic and pathetic end, though much of the atmosphere still remained.
So, I set the novel a few years in the past to recapture the area of London where sex clubs, clip joints, sex shops, prostitutes and a roaring nightlife all came together with the organised crime and uniquely British shame about sex.
A touch of the thriller with the sex, a sense of how the place was and a woman who deservedly carves out her place in Soho, London.
